Dunnottar Castle at Sunrise

Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Dunnottar Castle was built as a medieval fortress in the 1400s surrounded by the North Sea and steep sea cliffs for William Keith, Earls Marischal.

Dunnottar Castle’s garrison manage to keep Oliver Cromwell’s army away for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Honours of Scotland, from theft and possible destruction by the English. The Honours of Scotland is now kept at Edinburgh Castle.
