Tantallon Castle was built in the mid-1300s to be the seat of the Douglas line of the Earls of Angus. The castle is overlooking the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock.
Clan Douglas is one of Scotland’s most powerful families and was in the 1380s split into two branches, the Black Douglases and the Red Douglases where Tantallon Castle was passed to the red branch.
